We are former customers of what we thought was a reputable contracting company. Halfway through our large addition project, the quality of work began to suffer and Garhart steadily began to show up less and less to work on the project despite routine and on time check payments as outlined in the contract. There would be weeks, sometimes months with no shows. Our addition was left in the elements with no roof, no windows, etc. for long periods of time resulting in damage to the new materials. Garhart stopped showing up all together after our last $25,000 check was given. We were left with a shell instead of a completed project. A 4 month build turned into 2.5 years. Lawyers were involved as well as the MHIC. We ended up having to finish the addition ourselves with the help of other contractors.
We found out through digging and investigating that this is Garhart’s M.O. He robs Peter to pay Paul. And when the money runs out, he abandons the project despite what the contract says. At least 27 disputes from other Garhart customers at the time of our problem with him. We were in litigation for years and were finally awarded some of the money we lost, but not all. As we have been told, he has lost his MHIC license.
Rick Garhart is a crook. Plain and simple. He is unbelievably unprofessional who cuts corners, uses cheap materials, and employs junkies. DO NOT USE R.M.GARHART AND SONS.
