The Blake Co-Ax is the classic tool for centering a mill spindle over a hole, boss or round part. Put it in the spindle, touch the feeler to the bore, turn the spindle by hand and adjust the table until the needle stops moving. The dial faces you the whole time, so there is no ducking around the spindle to read it.
