Armaspec is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Machine Shop Manager to lead and expand our advanced manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for overseeing daily production, workforce development, quality performance, safety, equipment utilization, material and tool management, continuous improvement initiatives, and operational excellence across the machine shop.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing and leading teams, optimizing workflow, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and driving accountability throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Operations
• Lead all daily machine shop operations and production activities.
• Establish a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Manage production schedules, labor allocation, and shop priorities to ensure on-time output.
• Monitor key performance indicators including throughput, efficiency, quality, utilization, and scrap.
• Conduct employee performance reviews and development planning.
• Ensure staffing levels align with production requirements.
2. Manufacturing & Production Management
• Oversee machining operations involving Haas CNC mills, Star lathes, automated pallet systems, robotic cells, and multi-axis production equipment.
• Coordinate workflow between departments to maximize throughput and minimize bottlenecks.
• Drive improvements in productivity, efficiency, and machine utilization.
• Support implementation of automation and lights-out manufacturing initiatives.
• Manage preventive machine maintenance program and equipment uptime.
• Ensure production processes consistently meet quality standards.
• Ensure material and machine tools are in stock for continuous production.
3. Quality & Safety
• Ensure compliance with all quality requirements and manufacturing standards.
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
• Investigate and resolve quality issues and non-conformances.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and process audits.
• Ensure proper use of measurement and inspection systems.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of machine shop management or manufacturing leadership experience.
• Experience managing teams in a high-volume manufacturing production environment.
• Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, and workforce management.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Experience in firearms, aerospace, defense, medical device, or other precision manufacturing industries.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.
