A junk car doesn't necessarily look like junk.
I regularly pick up vehicles that are still complete and look reasonably good sitting in the driveway. The reason they are being recycled is usually mechanical. An engine fails, the transmission starts slipping, the vehicle overheats, or another expensive repair comes along after years of ownership.
At some point you have to decide whether an older vehicle is worth putting more money into.
Sometimes the decision gets postponed.
The old car gets parked beside the house because the owner plans to deal with it later. The battery eventually goes dead, the tires lose air and months can turn into years surprisingly quickly.
That's the type of vehicle I can often pick up.

Cars That Don't Run
The vehicle does not have to start or drive.
I pick up many vehicles because they have engine problems, bad transmissions, electrical problems, overheating issues, accident damage or simply too many kilometres to justify another large repair.
A car that has been sitting for a long time can develop additional problems.
The battery will usually be dead. Tires may be flat or badly deteriorated. Brakes can become difficult to move after sitting.
Those things don't automatically mean I can't pick up the vehicle.
Just tell me about them beforehand.
The same applies if there are no keys.
Old Cars, Trucks and Vans
Ladner has plenty of vehicles that have been kept for many years.
It might be an older Honda or Toyota that spent years as the family car. It could be a Ford or Chevrolet pickup that was used for work. Sometimes it's an older van that hasn't been used since the owner bought something newer.
High kilometres alone don't make a vehicle junk, but high kilometres combined with an expensive mechanical failure can change the equation pretty quickly.

You don't need to know exactly what's wrong with it.
What I Need Before Pickup
Tell me the year, make and model if you know them.
Let me know whether it runs, how long it has been sitting and where it is parked.
Also mention flat tires, locked or seized wheels, missing keys, missing wheels or major parts that have already been removed.
Access is important too.
A vehicle sitting on a normal driveway is different from one parked behind a garage, beside a barn or farther back on a larger property.
Knowing that before I arrive saves everybody time.
Free Towing for Complete Vehicles
I provide free towing for complete vehicles that I am picking up for recycling.
If major parts or wheels are missing, tell me before arranging the removal. A partially dismantled vehicle can require a different type of pickup and may not qualify for free towing.
Some vehicles may also have a cash value depending on the year, make, model, condition and current recycling value.
I'll discuss the vehicle with you before arranging the pickup so you know what to expect.
Payment is made at pickup before I load the vehicle.
Keys, Registration and Paperwork
Having the keys and vehicle registration is helpful.
Sometimes an old vehicle has been sitting for so long that the registration can't immediately be found. If there are no papers or no keys, tell me before I come.
I carry vehicle transfer paperwork with me so the paperwork can be handled at pickup.
Remember to remove the licence plates before the vehicle leaves.
Vehicle Recycling
Once an old car reaches the point where repairing it no longer makes sense, having it recycled can clear the property while allowing useful materials from the vehicle to be recovered.
Vehicles I collect for scrap are transported for vehicle recycling in British Columbia.
