This receiver and 8-track player is in excellent condition, with only minor signs of prior use. It’s been my personal unit for over three years and has performed wonderfully throughout that time. Quad 8-tracks sound fantastic on it! I’m only selling because I recently found a Technics RS-858 in great shape — pricey, but I couldn’t resist.
I purchased this unit from a collector who had thoroughly refurbished it. According to him, he went through the amplifier section and tape preamp, replaced the electrolytic capacitors, and cleaned and demagnetized the head and tape path. I have no reason to doubt him. The only maintenance I’ve done is a recent belt replacement.
I used the line-level outputs to connect it to my entertainment system for 4-channel audio, but the built-in amplifier also works beautifully. All you need are four speakers to enjoy rich quadraphonic sound. This unit supports 8-ohm speakers, unlike many others from the same era that require 16 ohms, so you can crank up the volume without worrying about blowing the power transistors. The amp has a surprising amount of power.
I haven’t tested the headphone output because I don’t have a headset with a 1/4-inch plug. The receiver also has a phono input which I haven't tested.
This model is quite rare. I’ve found almost no information about it online. Based on its styling, I’d estimate it was made in the mid-1970s. Below are some specs I've been able to scrape together.
