Note: if your interest is in harvesting the root, then remove the bulbils as soon as they appear on the vine. By removing the bulbils, plant energy goes to the root and produce better crop. If you want to keep the bulbils as seedling for next year, then just keep one or two vines to produce bulbils. You will have plenty of bulbils for future growing. You only have to buy from us once.
This offering include 6 large bulbils which is plenty for your first try. We will also throw in several small bulbils as bonus. Do not underestimate these small bulbils, just stick into the ground and they will grow. They may not grow to very big the first year but will be big enough to be used as excellent seedling for next year's plantiing.
Note: if you have never planted this kind of chinese iron rod yam (鐵棍山藥) before, then listen to this carefully. They have a tendency to grow straight down to the ground, can be 3 or 4 feet deep. It will be a nightmare to dig them up without breaking them (they are very brittle). Search the internet, there are many people sharing their experience on how to grow and harvest the chinese yam. Some have very interesting and innovative ideas.
More note: do not grow chinese iron rod yam (鐵棍山藥) in the same place year after year. They are very nutritious but also exhaust the nutrient in the soil. If you want to grow them in the same place, you can replace the soil with fresh good soil or replenish the nutrient in the soil with compost or fertilizer.
