Data Center Smart Hands Tech (On-Call) — $45-55/hr — Dallas/Richardson (Dallas / Richardson TX)

We are a Southern California-based hosting company with datacenter locations in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, and Richardson.

We are seeking reliable, responsive On-Call Datacenter Smart Hands Technicians to provide physical on-site support for our facilities in Dallas and Richardson, Texas. This flexible, per-call role is ideal for local IT professionals seeking supplemental work, or motivated IT students looking to build real-world experience within a live enterprise-level network.

As our local hands-on presence, you will perform physical hardware tasks under remote engineering guidance and provide professional customer service to colocation clients visiting their cabinets.

COMPENSATION

• $45 - $55 per hour, depending on experience.
• One hour minimum per dispatch -- you are paid for a full hour every time you are called out, even if the task takes fifteen minutes.
• This is a 1099 independent contractor position. You are responsible for your own taxes, and no benefits are provided.

SCHEDULE

Strictly on-call, non-full-time, with no guaranteed number of hours. Work is as-needed and primarily after-hours. You must be able to mobilize on short notice and travel to the datacenter promptly when dispatched.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Hardware maintenance: basic server and network hardware swaps and upgrades, including replacing failed hard drives and installing RAM.
• Cabling and connectivity: professionally connect and route copper Ethernet, fiber optic cables, SFP transceivers, and Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables.
• Client escorts and support: safely escort colocation clients to their server cabinets and assist with mounting and installing equipment.
• Emergency response: respond promptly to urgent dispatches, traveling to the Dallas or Richardson facility as quickly as possible.
• Remote collaboration: follow precise, real-time instructions from engineers to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Basic understanding of server hardware components and cabling standards.
• Fundamental networking knowledge.
• Highly desirable: Linux operating system knowledge and familiarity with Juniper network switches.
• Preferred: CompTIA, Linux, or Microsoft certifications (a plus, not required).

REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to safely lift and move up to 40 lbs.
• Must reside in the Dallas/Richardson metro area with reliable transportation, and be able to reach the datacenters within one hour or less when called.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interacting professionally and securely with colocation clients.
