I am retired and like woodworking, so in my latest scrap-wood challenge, I built these utility/kitchen steps from offcuts from another project.

The stools are 20 inches across the top and 7 inches tall, and very sturdy. The top is sealed with polyurethane for protection and to keep it from absorbing any liquids that may spill on it
