Here's a fact that surprises most people: the banana plant isn't a tree. It's the world's largest herb — a giant soft-stemmed plant — and this Tall Nam Wah here in Palm Harbor proves the point. This shot catches the first flower coming out on the mat, the start of a rack that grows into one of those heavy bunches this yard is known for: one corm here carried three racks at once on three separate stems, roughly 700 bananas on the plant at the same time. All of it grown on deep, free arborist wood-chip mulch.
I always end up with more pups than I can plant. Banana pups are $20 each, and I can usually divide one off the mat if you'd rather grow your own.

Today's bit of banana wisdom
Nutritional nugget: bananas are berries, botanically — and the plant that grows them is the world's largest herb, not a tree at all.
Try it: too many ripe at once? Peel them, freeze them whole, and they blend straight into "nice cream" and smoothies with zero waste.
