Have owned it about 10 years.
'Legendary' VR6 2.8L 2-valve/cyl engine; they get 950HP out of these. They were originally designed to be a diesel, which is why they can be built to get 950HP. What this means to us is that the engine won't ever break.

The VR6 has developed a cult following within automotive and tuning communities, largely attributed to its distinctive, throaty exhaust note and compact design making it a common choice for engine swaps in the Volkswagen tuner scene. The engine's acoustic profile led enthusiasts to nickname it after the fictional Star Wars character Chewbacca and also inspired the name for an annual gathering of VR6 powered cars called "Wookies in the Woods.[

Just got back from a 2000mi trip.
4door dark blue obviously.
Has plenty of power/torque for any condition, eats highway hills for lunch, doesn't even know they're there.
About 140k.
Gets about 25-28mpg hwy, 20-25 city.
New (top of the line) water pump, tensioner, Continental belt. WP bolts were replaced with improved user friendly versions.
Tires are good/ok. I have 4+ good Continental spare tires for it too. Spare is a new-real tire.
Alloy wheels, not wheel covers.
Almost $500 just in parts in all new R brakes, pads, calipers, rotors, hoses.
F brakes are fine, 80% IMHO.
Always used WIX filters & Mobil 1.
New F wheel bearings & seals etc were not cheap.
Paint is great on sides, fading (like trunk) on top especially hood (clear coat peeling).
Headlites are good, not fogged up much at all.
AM-FM-CD works great, the best sound system I've ever had.
Interior is light camel leather, good condition. Always use towels on seats.
Dash has no cracks (I keep it covered).
Heat doesn't work well (like most VWs) for the 1st hour. I use the heated seats !
Never used the AC. probably works.
Has sunroof, & with RR window 1/4 way down, there is more breeze than a person needs even in FL.
I added slight convex mirror on D side, makes it super ez to see who's there.
The pics don't show that I backed into a trailer hitch on the lower trunk. Still works fine.
Trunk auto-release plastic part broke, I routed a wire & pulley thru back seat that will always work.
Back seats fold down. Lower seat out now. Can fit a bicyle in trunk, maybe 2.
Power windows & roof all work fine.
All guages etc work fine.
In dash computer works good except when super cold.
F tires are 2 sizes bigger now (215-60-16) R tires are std (205-55-16) now. It steers EXC now due to more rake & trail, & returns to center like it should. Very nice driving on the highway. This car goes in a straight line like no other I've driven.
The pics do not show 2 vents I cut in the rear corners of the hood. They help a lot on hwy driving to keep the eng bay heat (pressurized on hwy) from coming into the cabin. If you close the windows, it doesn't matter.
If you want to make an offer, send comps, or the offer means little.
BAD
Since I got it, after being on the hwy for a few hours, when getting gas & then taking off again, the trans has always been a little erratic from 3rd > 4th. So I always take it easy when taking off. Sometimes you don't even notice it. I was told a new TCM will fix it although maybe changing the fluid will fix it ? I should try it huh ? Maybe I'm too busy traveling !

Text "2001 VR6" & THE DATE to slow down some spammers. I will text or call you back. If you do not answer the 1st call, I won't call again as there are too many (already) folks spamming & scamming me even after 1 day. They must be unemployed as they obviously have nothing better to do. Plus, we are NOT going to be playing text games. If you're afraid to talk on the phone to a real person then don't waste our time.
