The device in the image is a vintage Cole Hersee M705 heavy-duty marine battery selector switch.
It is designed for boats with dual-battery setups, allowing you to select between Battery 1, Battery 2, or "BOTH" simultaneously, or shut off electrical power entirely ("OFF").
The faceplate explicitly warns to
"Stop engines before switching to
'OFF' position" to protect the boat's alternator and electrical
components from a sudden voltage spike.
Similar vintage models from this line, such as the Cole Hersee M714 Switch, were manufactured in Boston, Massachusetts, and are highly regarded for their rugged construction, heavy internal copper contacts, and long-term durability.
