I am a working detention officer in Dallas County, a U.S. Army veteran, and a teacher. I am looking for the next job in corrections, detention, security supervision, officer training, or English and ESL instruction. I will take mornings, afternoons, nights, overnights, weekdays, and weekends. I live in Terrell and I already work in Dallas. I can start a conversation this week.
What I have actually done
Right now I am a Detention Service Officer with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. Before that I was a Correctional Officer III with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where I supervised as many as 30 officers and ran a shift in a large facility. I also worked maximum security for the Florida Department of Corrections at Raiford, including close management and death row movement, and I worked for the Alabama Department of Corrections. I completed the TDCJ sergeant course, 80 hours, in May 2025.
Before corrections I taught English for nine years at the American International School in Abu Dhabi. I have two master's degrees: an M.A. in Teaching, English Language Arts, with ESOL and Reading, from the University of Central Florida, and an M.A. in English from Southern New Hampshire University. I have taught thousands of English learners. I can build a lesson, run a classroom, and write a clean report.
I served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2008 as an E-4, MOS 92W, water treatment specialist. I hold the Combat Action Badge. I treated and moved potable water for field units, kept the logs, and trained other soldiers on the equipment.
Hard skills
Shift command: briefings, post assignment, counts, inmate movement, meals, recreation, visits, medical runs, and court transport
Searches and contraband control in cells, dorms, and common areas
Incident response: fights, medical emergencies, disturbances, containment, backup, and the report afterward
Investigations and grievances, with the paperwork finished, not started
Training new officers in searches, restraint, use of force, and de-escalation
Digital logs, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and written reports a supervisor can use
CPR and First Aid
Valid driver license
Intermediate Spanish
ESL and reading instruction, curriculum, and classroom management for grades 6-12 and adult learners
Soft skills
Calm when a unit is not calm. I do not escalate a problem to look busy.
Direct with staff and plain with inmates. People know what I expect.
I write the way I work. Short, accurate, and finished before the next shift.
I have supervised officers, taught teenagers who were learning English, and trained soldiers. The job changes. The standard does not.
I show up for the shift nobody wants. Nights, weekends, and holidays are normal for me.
I work with people who are angry, scared, locked up, or not fluent in English, and I still get the task done.
I am employed. I am not desperate, and I am not casual. If you need a supervisor who has carried a shift, or a teacher who has already done the job in a hard setting, call or write. I answer.
