Antique Storage Sewing Ottoman/Footstool with Lancaster Bomber Leather and Wooden Base
Hand built by a Cabinet Maker for his wife in the early 1900's.
The base is made of wood.
The stool was built with a sewing storage area.
The inside has an upper lift out tray that holds spools of thread, thimbles, and other sewing items.
The tray was built out of an old tea box. (See Pic #8 and #9).
Under the tray is a larger storage area. ( See Pic #10).
The wood panel in bottom of the stool has a crack on outside bottom. Does not go right through base. (See Pic #6).
In the next generation (1940's) the top was covered with leather.
The owner (son to cabinet maker) was a mechanic who worked on the Lancaster Bombers that came in for repairs at Malton Airport (now Pearson Airport) in Toronto during WW2. The green leather was used in the nosecone area of the Bombers. He used scraps of the leather and recovered the stool.
This generation inherited the stool from and continued to get a lot of use from it. Due to downsizing, the stool is now ready to find a new home.
