Job Type: Full-time, on-site
Compensation: $24.00 - $38.00 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability
About the position
AFC Industries is seeking an experienced, hands-on Cabinet Maker / Casework Fabricator to build custom command-and-control consoles, technical workstations, commercial casework, cabinets and related laminated products.
Our products are similar in construction to high-quality kitchen cabinets, commercial casework, reception desks and custom architectural millwork, but they are designed for professional command centers, control rooms and technical working environments.
We need a dependable self-starter who can review drawings, plan the work, select the proper fabrication method, manufacture components accurately, assemble the finished product and take ownership of quality from start to finish.
Primary responsibilities
• Fabricate custom command-and-control consoles, cabinets, workstations and commercial casework.
• Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, sketches, dimensions and cut lists.
• Measure, lay out, cut, machine and assemble plywood, MDF, particleboard and related materials.
• Apply high-pressure plastic laminate and similar decorative surfaces.
• Cut, bond, route, trim, file and finish laminate cleanly without chips, bubbles or visible defects.
• Operate table saws, panel saws, routers, drills, sanders, edge-banding equipment and common woodworking tools.
• Install hinges, drawer slides, locks, handles, leveling feet and other cabinet hardware.
• Create accurate openings and provisions for monitors, electrical equipment, ventilation and cable management.
• Produce square, level and dimensionally accurate assemblies.
• Inspect work during fabrication instead of waiting until final inspection.
• Identify drawing, material or fit problems before they create scrap or delays.
• Correct fabrication issues and recommend practical manufacturing improvements.
• Maintain an organized, safe and efficient working area.
• Coordinate with engineering, production, metal fabrication and assembly personnel.
• Complete work according to production schedules and communicate delays immediately.
• Train or guide less-experienced employees when required.
Required qualifications
• At least 3 to 5 years of hands-on cabinet making, commercial casework, architectural millwork or custom woodworking experience.
• Demonstrated experience fabricating cabinets or casework from raw sheet materials.
• Strong plastic-laminate or Formica fabrication experience.
• Ability to read and work from shop drawings without constant supervision.
• Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, calipers and other measuring tools.
• Experience with cabinet hardware, joinery and assembly methods.
• Strong attention to detail and finished-product appearance.
• Ability to solve fabrication problems independently.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to safely lift and handle sheet goods, parts and completed assemblies.
• Willingness to work overtime when production schedules require it.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience building control-room consoles, technical furniture, nurse stations, reception desks, laboratory casework, store fixtures or exhibit displays.
• Experience with CNC routers, panel saws or automated edge banders.
• Experience creating cut lists and planning fabrication sequences.
• Experience building first articles, prototypes or one-of-a-kind products.
• Experience working with wood, plastic laminate, metal components and mixed-material assemblies.
• Ability to train junior cabinet makers or assemblers.
• Lean manufacturing, 5S or continuous-improvement experience.
What success looks like
The successful candidate can:
1. Receive a drawing and understand what must be built.
2. Develop the correct fabrication and assembly sequence.
3. Identify missing information before starting.
4. Produce an accurate first article with minimal rework.
5. Deliver clean, square and professional-looking finished consoles.
6. Meet production time and quality expectations.
7. Help improve AFC’s console-building process over time.
