Rather than excavating or scraping the existing soil to level the ground, it's easier to spread and compact fill dirt which in turn raises the land, making leveling and grading easier. Digging and scraping the ground is challenging due to roots, rocks, and hard soil that hinder progress. Fill dirt is cost-effective, often available at a low cost. It also compacts better than topsoil or gravel. Using two-way topsoil as a final layer promotes grass growth and simplifies lawn maintenance and efficiently eliminates uneven terrain and imperfections in the lawn. Spreading topsoil as the final layer over the fill dirt helps dial in the yard, covering up and rocks from the fill dirt and prepares the ground for seeding.

In some cases where the problem areas have existing growth such as heavy brush or native vegatation such as blackberries, salmonberry or decaying ground cover such as fallen trees, branches, leaves or stumps we first have to scrape the top layer before spreading dir. This prevents soil subsidence and breakdown, ensuring the surface remains level over time
We offer a bonus service for brush cutting and forestry mulching which helps prep the land before we begin backfilling, grading, sloping and leveling. This step isn't always necessary but in some cases where it is, it's something we can handle.
