Highly Collectable Michael Graves Experimental Conceptualized Chess - $275 (Chilliwack)

This is one of my unique special chess sets. The artist, Michael Graves (July 9, 1934 – March 12, 2015) created this chess set in the early 2000's.
These chess sets periodically come up for sale on E-bay at various prices usually in around the $200 USD range depending on condition. Unfortunately, you have to add the shipping charges, taxes, customs fees, that ultimately highly elevate the overall price
Michael Graves was an American architect, designer, and educator, best known for his innovative designs in both architecture and consumer products.
Graves designed the iconic chess set for Target in 2000, which he created by paying homage to traditional figurative attributes while incorporating modern functionality.
His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2001 Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects and the 1999 National Medal of Arts.
Anyway, these players are all embedded in blue velour depressions within this unique casing. In addition, checkers are included as well
The casing is quite special in that the board is hinged and folds partially open exposing these special uniquely designed players
When the the board is fully opened it is supported by opening hinged board supports. These board supports when closed are held shut by magnets
The players all have black velour material on their bottoms and all of them have a signature of their creator. In addition, there's also a metal disc underneath the whole assembly with his signature on that too
The board measures 16" square and 3" tall when opened and 3.5" tall when closed
The king measures 2.75" tall while the pawns measure 1" tall
