A Traffic Flagger is responsible for directing and controlling vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely through or around construction zones, roadway projects, utility work, and other work areas. The Flagger plays a critical role in protecting workers, motorists, pedestrians, and the general public while maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and control traffic around construction and work zones using hand signals, flags, paddles, and other approved traffic-control devices.
Stop, slow, and release traffic in accordance with established traffic-control plans.
Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, construction crews, and other flaggers.
Maintain a safe distance from moving vehicles and construction equipment.
Set up, maintain, and remove traffic-control devices such as cones, signs, barricades, and warning equipment.
Monitor traffic conditions and identify potential safety hazards.
Coordinate with equipment operators and construction personnel to ensure safe movement through the work zone.
Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all company, OSHA, and local/state traffic-control safety requirements.
Perform additional general labor duties as needed to support the construction crew.
Qualifications
Previous flagging, traffic control, construction, or general labor experience preferred.
Valid Flagger Certification preferred or required depending on the project.
Ability to stand and work outdoors for extended periods.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Strong communication and situational-awareness skills.
Ability to follow directions and safety procedures.
Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
Ability to pass required background and drug screening when applicable.
Must be dependable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. when required.
Work Environment
Outdoor construction and roadway environments.
Exposure to traffic, construction equipment, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.
Position may require standing for extended periods and working early mornings, nights, weekends, or overtime depending on project requirements.
