Artwork Details:
Subject: A classic historic Charleston landscape featuring two magnolia trees in the foreground with pink and white spring blossoms in the branches, a gray stucco garden wall in the midground, and a traditional tan-colored historic building in the background.
Signature: Signed "Van Sciver S.C." in the lower right-hand corner, denoting this work was completed during a visit along the South Carolina shore.
Dimensions: Miniature cabinet size, approximately 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
Frame Details:
Housed in its highly collectible, original late-19th/early-20th-century wooden frame manufactured by J.H. Cass & Son (Plymouth, New Hampshire). Frame is structurally sound and perfectly pairs New England craftsmanship with Southern fine art history.
Condition:
Artwork: Excellent historical condition. The watercolor paint remains vibrant. As is typical with early-20th-century works on paper, there is minor historic buckling and natural aging/yellowing on the back paper. The artwork surface itself is completely free of stains, tears, marks, or creases.
Glass: This piece features its original, historically correct flat glass window. It has been professionally and gently surface-cleaned to remove decades of storage film and environment residue. The glass is now completely clear, allowing the full depth of the watercolor colors to show through beautifully.
Frame: The original antique J.H. Cass & Son wood frame is structurally intact, solid, and holds the artwork securely.
