Don't let this older model Mac G5 fool you. This is an amazing recording studio system! It was designed by a friend of mine who is a "God" in the music industry. He recorded people like M.J., Blackmore, Journey, Sony Studios, Pink Floyd, etc etc etc.
The Mac was built by a company that specialized in recording systems. It's a G5 dual core 3.46 64GB RAM running Catalina 10.15.7 on a main solid state drive. That was revolutionary at the time and boosted the performance for audio. The graphic card is a Radeon RX 580 8GB. We purchased it in 2021 for about $2,400.
What makes this Mac special is we've installed 3 Universal Audio UAD cards to run UA pluggins. (These cards were $800 each) There's 1 single DSP and 2 double DSP cards. This creates 5 UADs. This is still incredible! You can have tons of world-class plugins running all at once on the UADs and the Mac is free from doing massive processing. Plugins include EQ's, compressors, audio-sweeteners, the equipment pro studios still use to make professional acts sound stellar.
AUDIO INTERFACE: I'm including the Presonus 1824c Audio Interface. This unit is still considered one of the best you can use for clean "pure" recordings. Presonus Preamps are famous for high quality low noise audio ceilings, almost zero noise. (This card new was about $2500).
HARD DRIVES: You can save your projects on the main SSD hard drive but we strongly recommend installing a SATA drive or two. (They're about $20 now) This keeps your system drive free to run the software faster, it's safer protecting your operating system from clogging with large files too. SATA drives are plug and play, you open the Mac plug them in and that it!
* The great thing about the G5 towers is not only being able to install UAD cards but you can have an additional 3 hard drives inside. A TWO TB SATA drive will hold more than 100 songs! This system for sale cost about the same in 2021 with all the cards, plugins etc.
Why are we selling this? We've upgraded to a new ProTools system. We really haven't seen any improvement in speed over this unit. But we had to buy a newer Mac to use the audio card we purchased. About $8,000 spent to do our upgrade.
LICENSES FOR PROTOOLS 10 WILL BE AVAILABLE TO TRANSFER TO THE BUYER. AVID told us ProTools 10 is ok to transfer to a buyer. The basic UA pluggins are free - We will leave the ones we've purchased on this unit. Upgrades to more more pluggins or if you try to update these will require you obtain your own licenses. Any fees required to license them will be up to the buyer to pay.
