Alison Stilwell (1921-1991) artist, author, and lecturer on China was the daughter of famed World War II General Joseph Stilwell. She was born in Beijing and spent her early childhood and teenage years in China. She studied under two renowned Chinese artists, Yu Fei-am and Prince P'u Ju, of the imperial family. She achieved wide recognition for her mastery of Chinese painting.
Alison lived in Carmel, California. Otters are well known for inhabiting the nearby Monterey Bay.
