About the Firm
Rivers Law Firm LLC is a litigation firm in West Caldwell, New Jersey, representing consumers and small businesses across the state. Our work centers on fraud and consumer protection cases, including claims under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and the Truth in Lending Act. We handle solar panel fraud, vehicle fraud, and lemon law matters, and we try cases to verdict. While these claims are our specialty and preferred area of practice, we also handle some family cases such as divorce, child support, and alimony.
We are passionate about representing consumers against corporations, and the right candidate will have the same zealous desire to fight for our clients.
The Position
We are seeking a full-time litigation associate to take an active role in consumer fraud and warranty litigation. Training will be provided. The ideal candidate already has litigation experience and wants to grow into an experienced trial attorney. We will teach trial skills, including jury selection, opening and closing statements, witness examination, and exhibit practice, and the associate will work alongside the principal attorney at trial.
We are operating remotely while our office is being renovated. Once the renovations are complete, we will transition to in-person. We anticipate the office will be done in December.
Responsibilities
• Draft complaints, answers, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses.
• Manage a caseload of consumer fraud matters from intake through resolution.
• Take and defend depositions and conduct client interviews.
• Research legal issues and verify all case and court rule citations.
• Assist with trial preparation, including witness preparation, exhibits, motions in limine, and jury charges.
• Appear in court and at mediations and arbitrations.
• Keep clients informed and respond to them promptly.
Qualifications
• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice in New Jersey and in good standing.
• Admitted to the United States District Court, District of New Jersey or willing to be admitted.
• Two or more years of civil litigation experience.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• A genuine desire to learn to try cases.
• Organized, responsible, self-directed, and comfortable working in a small office.
• Ability to track your time using a case management software.
• Experience with consumer protection, fraud, or warranty claims is helpful but not required.
• Must have reliable transportation, availability and willingness to drive to any county in the state to address legal proceedings.
Compensation and Benefits
• Salary of $85,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience for this full-time, in-office position.
• No billable hour requirement.
• Paid holidays.
• Paid sick leave in accordance with the New Jersey Earned Sick Leave Law.
