• The Brand: Indian Archery (originally based out of Evansville, Indiana) was a major manufacturer of traditional archery gear mid-to-late 20th century. They were well-known for producing reliable, working-class wood and fiberglass laminated bows.
• The Length: The 48" designation marks this as a very short, compact hunting bow. Short recurve bows like this were specifically engineered for maneuvering through tight brush, tree stands, or dense ground blinds where a standard 60" or 62" bow would snag on branches.
• The Design: It features a laminated wood construction backed with black fiberglass faces, typical of their "Hunter" series from that era.
Market Rarity: While the 52-inch variations (like Model 261) are more common, the 48-inch ultra-short variant (Model 270-48) is highly unusual. Complete, shootable models in good structural condition are widely considered excellent collector's pieces for traditional archery enthusiasts.
A little story behind this bow, my dad who was born in Albany, New York and moved to Arkansas in the 1950s. My dad bought this bow in the in the 1960s and he shot one deer with it! It has been stored for years because he wasn’t a big hunter. My dad passed away in 2021 and I have had this bow stored. We had a new string put on it the at Sunrise Outfitters in Searcy, AR and they were amazed of how good of a condition it was in! It does have a few scratches, but no cracks or twist!
Thanks for looking🥰
