Headchop & Lil’ Chop are looking for an ambitious, organized, and highly motivated Studio Assistant who is interested in growing into a management role.
Located in South Williamsburg, Headchop is a niche hair studio specializing in dry cutting for all hair types and textures. Our approach to hair, beauty, and client experience attracts people from all over the world. Lil’ Chop is our creative events and production arm, providing hair and makeup services both in-studio and on-location.
Our studio is also a creative space for education, events, celebrations, brand collaborations, activations, film shoots, and other creative projects. We are looking for someone who is excited to be part of a growing, creative business.
This is a hands-on position with a clear opportunity for growth into a Studio Manager role. We are looking for someone who wants to learn every part of the business—from client experience and studio operations to scheduling, team coordination, inventory, email communications, events, and eventually helping lead the studio.
About the Role
As a Studio Assistant, you will work closely with our stylists and management team while learning the day-to-day operations of Headchop & Lil’ Chop.
Previous salon or hair experience is not required. We are more interested in someone who is organized, personable, proactive, eager to learn, and excited about working in a creative environment.
The ideal candidate is comfortable wearing many hats, enjoys working with people, has strong organizational and communication skills, and is excited to take on increasing responsibility over time.
You should be equally comfortable sweeping hair, helping take care of the studio, answering the phone, solving a scheduling issue, organizing inventory, helping with an event, or jumping into an administrative project.
Studio Assistant Responsibilities
Studio & Client Support
Support the day-to-day operations of the studio
Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment
Check clients in and provide a warm, professional experience
Answer phones, emails, and client inquiries
Schedule and manage appointments through Zenoti
Communicate with clients virtually and in person
Assist stylists and management as needed
Complete daily and weekly studio tasks
Sweep—and lots of it!
Administrative & Operations
Assist with inventory management and supply orders
Help maintain studio records and administrative systems
Assist with daily studio operations and opening/closing procedures
Support scheduling and staffing needs
Help identify operational issues and find solutions
Assist with client email communications and bulk email campaigns
Use Canva to create and format materials for email communications, promotions, events, and other studio needs
Assist with tracking sales, appointments, and other studio information
Learn the systems and processes necessary to eventually take on management responsibilities
Creative Projects & Events
Assist with Lil’ Chop events and on-location projects
Support studio events, education, productions, brand collaborations, and activations
Help prepare the studio for events, productions, and special projects
Assist with general logistics and coordination for creative projects
Growth Into Management
This position is designed for someone who wants to grow with the company.
As you develop your skills and demonstrate strong performance, you may take on additional responsibilities including:
Coordinating daily studio operations
Creating and managing staff schedules
Training and onboarding new assistants and front desk team members
Supporting stylist and employee management
Coordinating trainings and education
Managing inventory and purchasing
Managing client communications and email campaigns
Helping organize events and creative projects
Building relationships with neighboring businesses and the local community
Tracking sales and studio performance
Creating reports and assisting with budgeting
Developing employee incentives and studio initiatives
Helping maintain a consistently excellent client experience
Troubleshooting day-to-day operational issues
Helping establish and maintain studio systems and procedures
The long-term goal is to develop the right person into a Studio Manager / Operations Manager who can help lead the team and oversee the day-to-day business.

Interest in beauty, fashion, events, production, or creative industries is a plus
Local knowledge of Williamsburg/Brooklyn and community connections are a plus
Salon or hair experience is welcome but not required
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is reliable, curious, personable, proactive, and excited to learn and take on more responsibility as they grow.
Requirements
Full-time availability
Availability throughout the week
Saturday availability is required
Ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed
Ability to work in person at our South Williamsburg studio
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Proficiency with Canva
Strong computer and email skills
No cosmetology license or previous hair experience is required for this position.
Training
You do not need to know how to cut, color, or style hair to apply.
You will learn the inner workings of the studio and work alongside our stylists and management team. For candidates who are interested in learning the hair side of the business, there may be opportunities to develop those skills over time, but the primary focus of this position is studio support, client experience, operations, and growth toward management.
