This is a true survivor for the vintage mountain bike collector.
Up for sale is a rare and iconic 1990s Answer Manitou FS frameset, complete with its matching period-correct Manitou EFC fork.
Both pieces were handcrafted in the USA and represent the final evolution of Doug Bradbury’s legendary Manitou full-suspension series, dated June 1996 on the bottom bracket.
The 19-inch frame is constructed from oversized, lightweight Easton "Vari-Lite" 7005 series aluminum and delivers 3.5 inches of rear travel via the Manitou Bazooka shock. To ensure a balanced ride, the matching CNC-machined Manitou EFC fork has been upgraded from original elastomers to coil springs, complementing the rear suspension’s feel.
This specific fork belongs to the first generation of Manitou designs to feature a built-in, adjustable oil damper cartridge.
The sale includes several hard-to-find components that are essential for this specific frame, such as the rare Shimano XT braze-on front derailleur.
Also included is a genuine Chris King headset, which, along with the fork, has seen its original red anodizing fade beautifully over the last thirty years into a unique "3DV-style" pinkish hue.
In terms of condition, the set is remarkably well-preserved. While it shows a fair share of honest scuffs and scratches from three decades of existence, the frame is structurally sound with no cracks.
There is a single, minor dent—smaller than a dime—located on the underside of the downtube near the bottom bracket.
These framesets rarely appear on the market in such complete condition.
Whether you intend to finish a period-correct "boardwalk joy bike" or simply hang it on your wall as a piece of CNC-machined art, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of mountain biking history.
Please note the work stand is not included in the sale. ;)
End of year clearance price of $1229 for what you see.
