Position Summary
We are seeking a hardworking, high-energy, and dependable Dishwasher / Kitchen Porter to join our elite back-of-house team. You will be the backbone of our kitchen operations, ensuring that our culinary team has the clean tools they need and our guests have spotless plateware to enjoy our authentic Caribbean dishes. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, maintains a cool head under pressure, and takes immense pride in keeping a safe, sparkling-clean kitchen.
Core Responsibilities
Dishwashing Excellence: Wash, sanitize, and properly store all dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans with speed, efficiency, and care to prevent breakage.
Maintain Sanitation Standards: Keep the dish pit, prep areas, and line meticulously clean and organized in strict accordance with New York City Department of Health (DOHMH) standards.
Waste Management: Routinely empty, clean, and reline trash, recycling, and compost bins. Ensure all kitchen waste is disposed of correctly according to NYC commercial waste guidelines.
Deep Cleaning & Support: Sweep and mop kitchen floors throughout the shift. Assist with heavy cleaning tasks at the end of the night, including degreasing hoods, scrubbing mats, and sanitizing prep surfaces.
Kitchen Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility and a team-first attitude during high-volume periods (like our major weekend brunch rushes) or during unexpected infrastructure/clog challenges.
Stocking & Organization: Safely unload deliveries, organize the walk-in cooler/dry storage, and keep chemicals and cleaning supplies properly labeled and stored.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: Previous experience as a Dishwasher, Porter, or Steward in a high-volume, full-service NYC restaurant is preferred, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are most important.
Stamina & Physical Strength: Ability to work quickly on your feet for long periods in a hot, humid kitchen environment. Must be able to safely lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs (such as heavy trash bags, bags of rice, or stacks of plates).
Speed & Detail: Ability to maintain a rapid pace to keep up with high-volume ticket times while ensuring absolute cleanliness and zero soap residue.
Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including late nights, holidays, and weekends (essential for our busy brunch shifts).
Certifications: Knowledge of NYC DOHMH kitchen sanitation practices is a major plus. An NYC Food Protection Certificate is appreciated but not required.
