We’re hiring a chef/kitchen lead for upcoming neighborhood café and community space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. In addition to breakfast, lunch, coffee, and matcha, the space will feature a carefully curated selection of retail pantry staples and everyday essentials, along with kid- and adult-friendly events, gatherings, and programming.
We’re looking for a hands-on Chef / Kitchen Lead to help finalize and execute a small, approachable breakfast and lunch menu built around great ingredients, strong cooking fundamentals, efficient prep, and food people in the neighborhood genuinely want to eat on a regular basis.
This is a working chef role in a compact kitchen with a small team. We’re looking for someone who enjoys being on the line, can lead and train cooks, manage prep and production, and collaborate with ownership on a focused opening menu. The concept is intentionally casual, neighborhood-friendly, and highly repeatable, with room for seasonal specials and future growth.
Our initial schedule is daytime-focused, with breakfast and lunch service. We hope to eventually expand into happy hour and occasional evening programming, but the priority is first building a strong, consistent daytime operation.
Responsibilities include:
* Collaborating with ownership on development of the opening menu
* Developing and standardizing recipes, prep methods, portions, and plating
* Designing the menu around ingredient cross-utilization, manageable prep, and fast pickup
* Leading day-to-day kitchen execution
* Training and working alongside the kitchen team
* Maintaining food quality and consistency
* Managing prep and production planning
* Working with the Director of Operations on ordering, inventory, food cost, and loss control
* Maintaining strong sanitation and food-safety standards
* Evolving the menu thoughtfully based on seasonality, sales, and guest feedback
We’re looking for someone who wants meaningful ownership of the kitchen without the pressure of building a chef-driven restaurant from scratch. We will provide strong operational support, clear creative direction, and room to grow with the business.
