**Compensation: $55,000–$65,000 per year + performance-based bonus**
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on **Bar Operator / General Manager** for a growing neighborhood tavern in Brooklyn.
This is an opportunity for someone who understands how to build and operate a bar business — not simply manage shifts.
The ideal candidate will work closely with ownership to improve sales, control costs, strengthen the team, develop consistent programming, and build a loyal neighborhood customer base.
## Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day bar and tavern operations
- Hire, train, schedule, and manage bartenders and front-of-house staff
- Manage beer, wine, and liquor inventory
- Monitor beverage cost, waste, overpouring, comps, and shrinkage
- Control labor costs and maintain efficient staffing levels
- Manage vendor relationships and purchasing
- Maintain strong opening, closing, cash-handling, and accountability procedures
- Develop promotions, sports programming, DJs, live music, private events, and other traffic-driving opportunities
- Help strengthen the beverage program and overall guest experience
- Build repeat neighborhood business
- Coordinate closely with kitchen staff and ownership
- Maintain responsible alcohol service and proper ID procedures
- Review weekly sales, labor, inventory, and operating performance
- Provide ownership with a clear weekly operating report
## Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant bar, tavern, restaurant, or nightlife management experience
- Strong knowledge of liquor and beverage operations
- Experience with inventory and beverage cost control
- Strong understanding of labor management and scheduling
- Proven leadership and staff-management experience
- Experience developing sales, promotions, events, or customer traffic
- Strong organizational and financial skills
- Hands-on management style
- Available to work evenings and weekends as business needs require
Experience opening, repositioning, or growing a bar or tavern operation is strongly preferred.
## Compensation
**$55,000–$65,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonus.**
There is strong earning potential for an experienced operator who can demonstrate measurable improvement in sales, cost control, and profitability.
