We are seeking a passionate, engaging educator who can create a positive, inclusive learning environment while promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy habits for middle school students.
POSITION: Physical Education Teacher
GRADE LEVEL: 6–8
HIRE TYPE: Full-Time
SCHEDULE: 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM
START DATE: ASAP
SALARY: Commensurate with experience, using a salary scale typically 4% higher than the NYC DOE/UFT scale
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: NYS Physical Education
ABOUT THE ROLE: We are seeking an educator who can build a welcoming, active environment where all students feel encouraged to move, try, and grow. The ideal candidate promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits. This role includes supporting students holistically through structured routines, inclusive activities, and strong relationship?building.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and teach engaging, standards?aligned PE units for grades 6–8
Create a safe, positive, inclusive environment for all learners
Differentiate and adapt activities for varied ability levels
Teach fitness concepts, motor skills, team sports, cooperative games, and wellness habits
Assess student progress and provide clear, encouraging feedback
Establish consistent routines for equipment, transitions, safety, and behavior
Collaborate with grade/content teams to support students holistically
Lead an advisory group and serve as a liaison for students and families
Support school?wide events promoting health, fitness, and community
QUALIFICATIONS:
NYS Physical Education certification required
Strong classroom management and ability to keep large groups active and safe
Experience designing fun, rigorous, accessible lessons
Passion for middle school students and commitment to inclusion
Collaborative, reliable, and open to feedback
A strong belief in the power of education to transform lives
