This is a beautiful vintage Catholic Last Rites (sick call) crucifix, crafted in wood with a gold toned metal body of Christ and INRI plaque.
Design: Traditional wall or standing crucifix with sliding back that reveals a hidden compartment.
Contents: Includes the original glass bottle for holy water, two unused candles, cotton and instruction in both English and French
Size: Measures approx. 13,50" tall x 8." wide
Condition: Very good with these items to mention: Small scratch that the crucifix covers, can hardly see when displayed. There a small area of finish wear and the plastic wrapping the cotton came in has dried over time, causing the cotton to have some staining from the wrap. Candles have some of that cotton fuzz on them. Nothing major at all, but I like to note all items I don't consider perfect. (see photos with pencil marking the areas)
Historical Significance
These crucifixes were made for Catholic homes from the 1940s–1960s and were kept ready for priests to administer the Last Rites (Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick) in emergencies. They served both as devotional wall crosses and as practical sacramental kits.
