Bill Essayli, first assistant U.S. attorney for the central district of California, said he believes at least 11 of the 28 are in custody.
The charges against the 28 include "unlawful voting by an alien, a false claim of U.S. citizenship in order to vote or register to vote, and knowingly depriving the residents of California of a fair and impartial election process," McCotter said.
"This Department of Justice will not look the other way while non-citizens vote in federal elections," McCotter continued.
"Unfortunately, the same can't be said for California and L.A. County."

We will use every legal resource to hold those who violate our election laws accountable and defend every American citizen’s constitutional right to vote."
