Hello! I'm between Des Moines and Iowa City on I-80. We have a family apple cider making festival in the middle of September before harvest starts. Unfortunately, a late frost took out all our apple blossoms and we're going to have to cancel our tenth annual festival if we can't scrounge up some apples. We get about a gallon of cider per 5 gallon bucket of apples with a homemade press.
We're looking for someone or someones with trees who would let us pick a bunch. I'll be back down in southern Iowa (Bloomfield) the last Saturday in September for a giant pumpkin weigh off, and I'd bring some frozen jugs of cider in return for the apples. I'd also be willing to trade a 500 lb pumpkin for about 50 buckets of apples if you've got a way to unload it.
