We are seeking a part time line/prep cook to join our small kitchen team! This position starts at $19.13/hr plus tips. Tips are split evenly between BOH & FOH staff based on the number of open hours worked per day. Benefits include shift drinks & meals, free bag of coffee biweekly, discounts on bagged coffee and brewing equipment, and optional health insurance & 401k for full time employees (30+ hrs/week). We offer paid vacation for full time employees after 1 year of employment. Paid sick leave accrues at 1 hour per 40 hours worked for all staff.
This position requires the availability to work a regular schedule (~23 hours per week) on Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays, and will consist of two line closing shifts and one pastry bake-off/prep/dish shift. Having open availability on other days of the week to help cover time off for other kitchen staff is ideal; since our crew is small, it’s all hands on deck during vacations or when someone is sick. That said, the regularity of your schedule (and consecutive days off) are considered of very high importance, and are protected in our scheduling practice as much as possible. Camber’s kitchen is currently open from 8am - 12pm Monday - Thursday and 8am - 2pm Friday - Sunday. The earliest shift start time is 6am, and the latest shift end time is 4pm.
Each of our cooks is trained to open & close the kitchen, open & close the breakfast line, work the early morning pastry bake-off, prep food & pastries, do dishes… we all do it all. Your role for each day will be clear & defined - and within that structure we are looking for someone who is motivated to learn, great at multi-tasking quickly and safely with lots going on around them in a small space, and can maintain their cool when it gets slammed but still hustle on prep when it’s slow.
Job duties include: prepping food, working the breakfast line preparing hot breakfast sandwiches, toasts, salads, and bowls, handing off food to customers, addressing questions or concerns from customers about their plates, opening & closing the line & kitchen, maintaining excellent organization & cleanliness, cleaning the kitchen, washing dishes, prepping pastry components & bar syrups, baking and stocking pastries, communicating frequently throughout the day with fellow BOH employees as well as FOH, working with a POS system to keep food & pastry pars correct, following set pars and a daily prep sheet for prepping/stocking, checking in and putting away deliveries from distributors, following systems & standards as set by the kitchen manager & general manager.
Applicants must:

- enjoy working in the kitchen
- be able to work quickly & efficiently in a small space with others
- possess an eye for consistency & detail
- be an excellent communicator
- maintain a sense of urgency throughout slow & busy times
- be comfortable switching gears & adapting to the changing daily flow of kitchen work
- be self-directed, focused, and able to multitask
- be willing to maintain very high standards of cleanliness & organization
- possess a WA state food handler’s permit and MAST certification (or ability to obtain)
Our team is very tight-knit and it’s important to us to find the right candidate. We interview in a 2-step process beginning with a sit-down interview with our kitchen manager and general manager. If this goes well, you will be invited back for a paid 2 hour working interview in the kitchen. Upon hiring, the initial 90 days of employment are considered a probationary period for both parties to confirm a good fit. Food & beverage industry experience is a plus for this position, but we are absolutely willing to train the right person with the right attitude.
