RUSSIAN LEGENDS – Series of limited edition elegant decorative plates. The first porcelain collector's plate series ever created in Russia. Unprecedented collection bringing together the colorful folk tales of Mother Russia and the exquisite lacquer miniatures of the Masters of Palekh. Only a chosen few of the painters trained in the ancient village of Palekh ever earn the title of Palekh Master. Master Artists Lubimov, Kovalev, Vleshko, Belousov, Zhiryakova, and Populov (below) are members of this elite group whose fluidity of line, clarity of composition, and spiritual expressiveness have made Russian lacquerware one of the world's most coveted art forms. The plates were produced with no fewer than sixteen colored ceramic pigments on black hard-fire porcelain and enhanced with 18-karat gold. They measure 7-3/4 inches in diameter.
On the back of each plate is writing in Russian describing the title, story, and serial number. Each plate has a parchment Certificate of Authenticity in Russian, a glossy six-page foldout brochure in Russian specific to each plate, and a four-page brochure in English which describes the plate, gives a history of the legend, explains Vinogradoff Porcelain, and provides information about each Master Artist. The "Ruslan and Ludmilla" plate has an eight-page dual language brochure in English and German.
These plates showcase Russian legends and culture through the detailed scenes painted on each plate. They are a valuable and unique addition to any Russian Collection. The plates can be displayed on surfaces and/or hung on walls. There are 2 small holes centered on the back of each plate to string ribbon or cord.
All of the plates are in New/Mint Condition. Original Owner. They have been stored in a cabinet far away from sunshine, and are from a smoke-free and pet-free home. Original cost of each plate $40 x 6 = $240. I have priced these plates to sell at $60 Cash Only
