Fascinating Japanese Showa period four-panel byobu hand-painted screen depicting women shell gathering or clamming after the painting by Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese 1760-1849). The women are gathering at low tide on the beach with mountains in the distance and a foreboding dark green sky above. Unusual for a Japanese screen because of the everyday human activity depicted. The screen seems somewhat old, but I do not know how old. It is in excellent condition. Aprox. 36" X 72".
