compensation:Paid in June if all requirements met. $1100 for coaches with 0-2 years' experience; $1300 for 3-5 years' experience; $1600 for 6+ years. Attend additional tournaments ($25 for half day tournaments/$50 for full day tournaments)

We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable adults to serve as Afterschool Chess Coaches in Baltimore City schools during the school year.
You do not need to know how to play chess! We provide training and support to help coaches learn the game and successfully teach students.
Position Details
Teach chess for approximately 1 hour per week as part of an afterschool chess program.
Work with elementary, middle, and/or high school students.
Help students develop chess skills while creating a fun, positive, and encouraging learning environment.
Build strong relationships with students and encourage their interest and confidence.
Coaches are independent contractors. Paid and volunteer positions are available.
Immediate openings are available.
What We're Looking For
The most important qualifications are your ability to connect with students and create a positive learning environment. Ideal coaches are:
Good communicators
Patient, enthusiastic, and dependable
Comfortable working with groups of students
Able to manage a classroom and maintain a positive learning environment
Interested in helping young people learn and grow
Able to build strong connections with students
Willing to learn and participate in coach training
Chess experience is NOT required. We will train coaches in the chess skills and teaching methods they need.
Additional Chess Events
In addition to the weekly afterschool program, we offer approximately 15 chess events throughout the school year, including events on:
Baltimore City Schools' half-days
Professional Development (PD) days
Some Saturdays
There are 3 required events. The remaining events are optional, depending on student interest and coach availability.
These events give coaches additional opportunities to work with students, support chess activities, and help students participate in a broader chess community.
