A meticulously restored pair of vintage Henry Kloss-designed KLH Model 32 acoustic suspension speakers. Built just 10 days apart in February of 1971 (Line 1 and Line 2), I've overhauled this pair inside and out. They're furniture grade and deliver that legendary 1970s West Coast sound.
Here are the exact details of the work performed. Some before and after shots included in the photos.
• The crossovers have been completely rebuilt. I replaced the dried out Factory capacitors with premium Jensen 4uF 250V capacitors to unlock original factory treble clarity without harshness. Replace the original 20 gauge wiring with much more solid 16 gauge. All internal wiring junctions have been permanently soldered and insulated—completely eliminating the loose, oxidization-prone factory wire nuts. Original copper inductors retained as they are in perfect spec.
• To preserve the legendary "air spring" bass performance of these sealed cabinets, I treated the original, indestructible inverted cloth woofer surrounds with latex-based speaker surround dampener. They achieve a flawless, factory-correct airtight seal.
• The original American Walnut veneer was completely saved. I stripped cabinets of failing topcoats, treated them with oxalic acid wood brightener to completely lift deep iron water stains, hand-blocked 320-grit, and finished with a Danish Oil foundation, protected by 5 hand-wiped, naphtha/poly coats. They are glass-smooth with a satin glow.
The front plywood baffles were primed and sprayed with an automotive-grade satin black finish. The historical 1971 factory assembly line and inspector ink stamps have been masked and left raw.
• The fragile, original 1/4" particle board grille frames were replaced by routed frames cut from Baltic Birch plywood. They have been blacked out and wrapped in a wheat linen cloth. They affix flush to the cabinets utilizing a magnet mounting system hidden beneath the cloth.
• The internal acoustic insulation has been fluffed and repacked to its precise original density to regulate bass response, safely separated from the driver cones by the original factory cheesecloth scrim barriers to protect the voice coils. Tweeters have also been fitted with a custom-fabricated wire mesh acoustic diffuser dome matching the factory specification.
These speakers are 100% plug-and-play, airtight, and ready to anchor your audio setup.
