The SAE Mark 1B (also written as Mark IB) is a highly flexible, legendary vintage high-end solid-state stereo preamplifier and graphic equalizer combo introduced in 1974 by Scientific Audio Electronics. Designed by the renowned audio engineer James Bongiorno, it is highly prized by audiophiles for its bulletproof American build quality, exceptionally low total harmonic distortion (0.02%), and advanced control layout.
Recent Service: The unit was recently serviced by DALAUDIO. All controls, switches, selectors, potentiometers have been cleaned, coated and tested. The inputs and outputs have all been tested for accuracy with 1kHz Sine wave injected into both channels and monitored on our scope. The power supply was checked, capacitors were tested for value and ripple where suspected. Those that failed or were out of spec were changed. It is a working unit. Although I doubt you would sonically benefit, a more complete capacitor replacement is possible, for an additional $525 parts and labor. We have a digital copy of the manual is requested, please bring a drive.

Standout Features & Capabilities
Built-in 9-Band Graphic Equalizer: Instead of simple bass and treble knobs, it features a massive, "Risky Business" style faceplate with sliders covering 9 individual frequency bands. It has an EQ defeat switch for instant comparison to a "flat" signal, and a dual-range switch allowing you to toggle the slider range between ±8dB or ±16dB.
Advanced Variable Gain Control: It features a unique 5-position front-panel gain range extender (-12dB, -4dB, 0dB, +12dB, +24dB) coupled with an ultra-precise stepped volume control tracking to within ±0.1dB. This allows you to tailor the output perfectly to your power amp or safely run highly sensitive or inefficient speakers.
Proprietary Speaker Routing System: One of the unit's interesting features is the speaker terminal banana jacks and a 4-pin "Power Amp In" socket on the back. This allowed users to route their power amplifier's output through the preamp, utilizing the front panel's speaker selector switch (Main, Remote, Both) and driving headphones directly from the amplifier's raw power. The interconnection cable for your amplifier is included as well. This 4-Pin Amphenol Speaker-Loop Cable attaches to the SAE Mark 1B 4-pin socket on the back panel marked "Power Amp In". This port loops the high-level speaker output from your standalone power amplifier back into the preamplifier chassis. This powers the front panel's speaker selector switch (Main/Remote) and drives the heavy-duty front headphone jacks using your amplifier's raw wattage. The original cable: SAE originally shipped the unit with a proprietary Amphenol 4-prong socket to 4-wire color-coded cable assembly (Part #22-0012). The integrated banana plugs connected directly to your power amplifier's speaker output terminals. The wiring pinout factory wiring layout is: Red: Right Channel "Hot" (+), Black: Right Channel Ground (-), White: Left Channel "Hot" (+), Green: Left Channel Ground (-)
Extensive Signal Routing: It boasts massive input flexibility, including dual moving-magnet (MM) phono stages, tuner, dual auxiliaries, and two complete tape monitor loops supporting a 3-way tape-copy routing matrix
