I am a meticulous editor with more than 15 years of experience. I was once a retained editor for The State Bar of California, and was previously the Senior Assistant Editor of college guidebooks at The Princeton Review and a copyeditor at Wolters Kluwer.
I have edited everything from doctoral dissertations by international scholars to books by an author who won Emmys and Golden Globes, to dense legal and medical material, to even children's books featured on a prominent podcast.
I am proficient in a number of styles, including but not limited to:
• American Psychological Association (APA)
• Associated Press (AP)
• The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS)
• Modern Language Association (MLA)
• American Medical Association (AMA)
I will proofread, edit or format virtually any document: manuscripts, books, articles, research reports, product documentation or manuals, presentation slides and handouts, internal or external newsletters, user guides, consultancy reports, sales proposals, marketing materials (sales brochures, leaflets or posters), annual reports, website copy, reports or briefings, dissertations, theses, essays, etc.
Editorial services and rates can vary depending on the nature of the work, the timeframe of the assignment, and the degree of expertise required. My rates are consistent with the spectrum outlined by the Editorial Freelancers Association: https://www.the-efa.org/rates/
When the material is nearly a finished product, meaning it has been edited, laid out, and designed, the proofreader searches for typographical errors. Proofreaders don’t suggest major changes to the text; rather, they look for minor text and formatting errors and confirm the material is ready for publication.
Copyediting — $50-75/hr
Copyediting is a light form of editing that applies a professional polish to a manuscript, website, blog or marketing content. The editor reviews your work, fixing any mechanical errors in spelling, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, abbreviations or references. The application of a particular style falls under this tier (e.g., APA, CMS, AP, AMA, MLA).
Line Editing — $55-85/hr
In line editing, the editor looks at your content line by line and analyzes each sentence. The editor considers word choice and the power & meaning of a sentence. The editor considers syntax and whether a sentence needs to be trimmed or tightened. It involves tightening and clarifying at a chapter, scene, paragraph, and sentence level.
Developmental Editing — $65-95/hr
Developmental editing is the most comprehensive form of editing, focusing on the big picture rather than line-by-line polish. The editor evaluates the structure, organization, and flow of the work, and whether the argument, story, or report is presented in the most effective order. This tier addresses pacing, gaps in content, and whether concepts are fully developed and well-supported. Developmental editing solidifies a project's foundation prior to moving into finer polishing.
Formatting — $55-90/hr
Professional, polished formatting of virtually any document with adherence to style requirements, consideration of genre, audience and meticulous attention to detail.
Book Layout — $45-55/hr
A well-designed book invites the audience in before reading a passage. By transforming your manuscript into a polished, professional interior with careful attention to typography, spacing, chapter openings, table of contents and page flow, book layout helps make reading feel effortless. Every layout is tailored to suit the genre, trim size, and print or digital format.
