Astoria, Queens, NY | Part-Time / Full-Time
Palermo Restaurant & Bar, a family-run Italian restaurant in Astoria for over 13 years, is looking for a friendly, polished host or hostess to be the first face our guests see. You'll set the tone for the whole dining experience, so we're looking for someone warm, organized, and calm when it gets busy.
Responsibilities
Greet and welcome every guest warmly as they arrive, and thank them as they leave
Answer phones, take reservations, and handle takeout and general inquiries courteously
Manage the waitlist and give guests honest, accurate wait times
Seat guests and rotate tables fairly among servers to keep sections balanced
Hand out menus and tell servers when new tables are seated
Keep the host stand, entrance, and waiting area clean and organized
Help with guest concerns and escalate larger issues to a manager
Support the team by clearing and setting tables or running food when needed
Keep track of reservations, large parties, and special requests (birthdays, events, allergies)
Requirements
Previous host or hospitality experience preferred, but we'll train someone with a great attitude
Friendly, professional, and presentable, with strong communication skills
Comfortable on the phone and with a reservation system or POS (Toast experience is a plus)
Able to stay organized and calm in a busy, fast-moving environment
Able to stand for long periods and carry up to 25 lbs
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Italian, Greek, or Spanish language skills are a plus
