There are small impressed markings on the underside of the desktop and book box that read "3 22," "3–22," and "4–22." These appear to be original production or inspection markings and may indicate a 1922 date, although I haven't been able to confirm exactly what they represent.
I've also not been able to definitively identify the manufacturer. The construction is consistent with American Seating and other American school furniture from this era. My parents acquired the desk in Grand Rapids, Michigan (once a major center of American school-furniture manufacturing), in the 1970s.
A wonderful piece of vintage Americana for a collector, home office, reading nook, child's room, homeschool/art space, or anyone who appreciates unique historic furniture. Condition is sturdy and intact with nothing broken. The wood has normal scratches, marks, and signs of use consistent with its age, along with a beautiful aged finish/patina.
