We are a small design firm based in San Diego, California, specializing in residential, and commercial design.
Our work includes:
• Residential: ADUs, JADUs, additions, remodels, and new construction.
• Commercial: Tenant improvements, building additions, accessibility improvements, and feasibility studies.
• Hospitality: Restaurants, bars, and public spaces.
We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, and reliable independent architectural CAD drafter to assist with the preparation and development of construction drawing sets for projects throughout California.
This is an opportunity to establish a long-term professional relationship with a small design firm that values quality, accuracy, communication, and efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare and develop complete architectural construction drawing sets using AutoCAD.
• Produce existing-condition plans, demolition plans, proposed floor plans, roof plans, elevations, building sections, wall sections, schedules, and construction details.
• Develop drawings from sketches, design concepts, field measurements, and project markups.
• Incorporate redline corrections and revisions accurately.
• Assist with city plan-check corrections and permit resubmittals.
• Coordinate architectural drawings with structural and other consultant documents.
• Maintain organized AutoCAD files and project documentation using Dropbox.
• Follow established office CAD standards and drawing conventions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated experience preparing residential construction and permit drawing sets for projects in California.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, including layers, Xrefs, paper space, layouts, viewports, visretain, layer states manager and file organization.
• Familiarity with California residential construction practices, building materials, and construction detailing.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Experience preparing complete construction drawing sets, not just individual plans or elevations.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and communication.
• Ability to work independently, manage assigned deadlines, and incorporate design revisions.
• Own computer, AutoCAD software, and reliable internet connection.
• Availability for scheduled coordination meetings during Pacific Time business hours.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS — A PLUS
• Experience with California ADU and JADU projects.
• Familiarity with California Building Code and California Residential Code requirements.
• Experience responding to city plan-check comments.
• Experience with commercial tenant improvements.
• English communication skills.
• 3D modeling or rendering capabilities (optional).
CONTRACT ARRANGEMENT
This is a remote independent contractor opportunity with compensation negotiated per project, based on scope, complexity, and deliverables.
Compensation is starting at $15 per hour, depending on demonstrated experience and productivity.
We are interested in establishing a long-term relationship with a qualified individual who can consistently produce accurate, professional construction documents.
