Job Description: Student Support Assistant

Position Summary:
Redwood Coast Montessori is seeking a kind, dependable, and collaborative Student Support Assistant to support students with disabilities and learning differences in an Elementary classroom. The ideal candidate has experience working 1:1 with students with high needs and is committed to inclusive practices that align with Montessori values.
Position: Part-time (.75 FTE), Student Support Assistant
Location: Redwood Coast Montessori (Public Charter School)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6 hours/day (8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
Start Date: August 18, 2026
Salary: $19/hr depending on experience

Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one and small group support for students with high needs, including behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges
Implement individualized education or behavior plans; collect and track data as needed
Support student participation in the general education classroom
Model and reinforce mindfulness, emotional regulation, and restorative practices
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and support team
Supervise students during recess, lunch, and transitions
Support students with toileting needs
Support with clerical tasks (e.g., copying, filing, organizing materials)
Maintain confidentiality and communicate respectfully with students, families, and colleagues
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Evidence of passing the Paraprofessional Exam (or at least 48 semester college units).
Experience working 1:1 with students with high needs or behavioral challenges
General knowledge of child development and inclusive support strategies
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Commitment to equity and supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds
Reliable transportation to and from the work site
Requirements Upon Hire:
DOJ fingerprint clearance
Negative TB test
Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification
