Out and About Shasta County — Social Recreation and Community Integration Program
Position Overview
Out and About Shasta County is seeking reliable, compassionate, and flexible staff to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community-based social recreation activities. Our nonprofit program helps individuals participate in local events, build social skills, increase independence, and enjoy meaningful involvement in the Shasta County community.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with people, values inclusion, and is comfortable supporting individuals in a variety of community settings such as the YMCA, library, movies, bowling, plays, concerts, and other local events.
Key Responsibilities
• Transport consumers safely to and from scheduled community activities and events.
• Support consumers with social cues, communication, community participation, and individual objectives based on their needs.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interaction in public settings.
• Assist consumers during recreational activities, outings, volunteer opportunities, and special events.
• Follow each consumer’s schedule, allotted service hours, and individual support needs.
• Maintain professional, respectful communication with consumers, families, staff, and community partners.
• Represent the program positively while working in a wide range of public locations throughout Shasta County.
• Adapt to calendar changes, late-night events, weekend activities, and occasional Sunday events as needed.
Schedule
Our activity calendar is primarily Monday through Saturday, with some Sunday events, concerts, late evenings, and weekends as they arise. All staff must be available and willing to work late nights and weekends.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Must be dependable, patient, respectful, and able to work with individuals with varying support needs.
• Must be able to work late nights, weekends, and occasional Sunday events.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must pass a background check and drug test.
• Must have a good driving record.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is helpful, but not required.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm, flexible, and professional in community settings are important.
About Our Program
Out and About Shasta County partners with the local Regional Center to provide social recreation and community integration services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Consumers choose activities from a monthly calendar, and staff provide transportation, guidance, encouragement, and support while helping each person work toward individual goals.
We are a flexible, community-based program without one fixed activity location. Instead, we use the many events, resources, and opportunities available throughout Shasta County to help consumers connect, participate, and enjoy life in their community.
