Reports to Program Director
Works with Front Desk Lead, Front Desk Staff, Club Instructors, students, and families
Schedule Monday through Thursday, 2:15 to 5:45 p.m.; Friday, 1:15 to 5:45 p.m.

The Opportunity
Rilke Clubs is seeking a calm, dependable Behavioral Lead to support students and help guide the daily operation of our after-school program. This role is a strong fit for a college student or emerging professional studying counseling, psychology, education, social work, human services, child development, or a related field who wants meaningful, hands-on experience working with school-age children.
The Behavioral Lead helps students regulate, problem-solve, and return successfully to their activities. The Lead also supports Club Instructors during challenging moments, notices patterns that may require follow-up, communicates thoughtfully with families, and works alongside the Front Desk Lead to keep the program safe and running smoothly.
Important role distinction This is a youth-development and program-leadership position similar to a camp counselor role. It is not a clinical counseling position and does not diagnose or provide therapy.
What You Will Do
• Respond to significant or escalating student behavior and help restore safety and calm using established program procedures.
• Supervise Brain Breaks and support students in returning successfully to their club activities.
• Check in with designated students who may need additional encouragement, structure, or support to participate successfully.
• Conduct regular Club Checks to observe student participation, check in with instructors, anticipate concerns, and offer practical support before problems escalate.
• Support Club Instructors with behavior redirection so they can continue leading the rest of the group.
• Respond to significant student injuries or medical concerns within the scope of training and follow established notification and documentation procedures.
• Complete clear, factual incident reports and contribute relevant information to the Weekly Lead Log.
• Identify recurring student concerns or patterns and bring them to the Program Director for follow-up.
• Assist with routine family questions and participate in more sensitive parent communication as trained and authorized.
• Work with the Front Desk Lead to maintain safe supervision, adjust coverage, respond to unexpected needs, and complete opening and closing responsibilities.
• Provide clear day-to-day direction and support to staff while referring formal discipline and significant employee matters to the Program Director.
• Participate in weekly Leadership Meetings and ongoing leadership development.
What You Will Learn
Rilke Clubs provides coaching, feedback, and increasing responsibility as the Behavioral Lead gains experience. Training and practice may include:
• Conscious Discipline concepts related to behavior, self-regulation, communication, and leadership.
• Practical de-escalation and student-support strategies in a group setting.
• Professional documentation and pattern recognition.
• Family communication, including preparation, observation, supported practice, and reflection.
• Team leadership, operational decision-making, and safe staffing and coverage planning.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
The strongest candidate is warm and approachable with students while remaining steady, observant, and willing to provide clear direction. They can respond to challenging behavior without taking it personally, communicate early when support is needed, and learn from feedback.
• Genuine interest in working with school-age children and helping them succeed.
• Calm judgment during emotionally charged or unexpected situations.
• Ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Clear, tactful communication with children, families, instructors, staff, and program leadership.
• Reliability, follow-through, and availability during after-school program hours.
• Initiative to notice needs, offer support, and solve routine problems without waiting for step-by-step direction.
• Ability to accept coaching, reflect honestly, and apply feedback.
• Strong organization and attention to detail when documenting incidents and follow-up needs.
• Flexibility to move between student support, instructor assistance, direct supervision, and general program needs.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience working with youth in a school, recreation, camp, childcare, community, coaching, mentoring, or similar setting.
• Ability to pass the required criminal background check.
• Availability to work the assigned afternoon schedule during the school year.
• Reliable transportation to and from the program.
