“Gary Peterson is a noted outdoor artist.
He has lived most of his life in Alaska and is honored to be numbered among the Tlingit tribe of Kake, Alaska. Gary's adopted name “Yaana Gut Yehlh” means “Walking Raven”.
His close association with the culture and the years spent living in the village of Kake left an indelible impression.”
“Gary’s work combines traditional design principles of Northwest Coastal indian art with his own wildlife and landscape techniques. The result is a beautiful combination of the ancient and modern that reflect the true talent and insight of this artist.”
“Much of Gary’s life and career has been spent in Alaska. “In 1975 I married a fine young woman of Tlingit ancestry. She is a member of the Eagle moiety.”
In keeping with tradition, he was adopted into the opposite moiety, the Raven, and given the name “Yaana Gut Yehih.”
This means “Walking Raven.”
“This was one of the proudest moments of my life and I feel honored to be numbered among the Kaach.adi clan of Kake, Alaska.” No
