What is Stranger Things: Tales from '85?
"Stranger Things: Tales from '85" is an animated spin-off series on Netflix that bridges the gap between the live-action show's second and third seasons. Animated by Flying Bark Productions, the series leans heavily into a vibrant, neon, Saturday-morning cartoon aesthetic inspired by classic 1980s animation. Unlike the primary live-action series—which is a high-stakes, dark horror drama focused on the apocalyptic threat of Vecna and the Upside Down—Tales from '85 is a lighter, more family-friendly "midquel" following the main Hawkins kids over their 1985 winter break. It captures a nostalgic, episodic adventure tone akin to The Goonies or Scooby-Doo, allowing the characters to face lighter paranormal threats and neighborhood mysteries.
Inside the Vault: The Weekly Watcher & Mike #7 Action Figure
The McDonald's Happy Meal toy named "The Weekly Watcher & Mike" directly references Chapter Five of the animated series, Tales from '85. "The Weekly Watcher" is the name of Hawkins' local tabloid newspaper, which becomes the main threat of the episode when the arcade manager, Keith, sells them a Polaroid photograph capturing Eleven openly using her powers. The action figure features Mike Wheeler holding his iconic Realistic TRC-214 walkie-talkie to call the rest of his gang from inside the vault. This design commemorates the episode's central storyline: a classic '80s heist where Mike must use his radio to navigate the team as they infiltrate the tabloid's headquarters, crawl through the air vents, and crack open the secure office storage to steal back the evidence before it goes to print and exposes Eleven to the world.
