Help for any Arab Americans experiencing racial discrimination
They were taking calls on National Public Radio from callers the other day who just needed to express how Tues.'s tragedy was affecting their lives. There was a call from a mother of 3 children who was afraid to leave her home for fear of attack. She had just found out someone in Sacramento had been beaten into a coma the day before because they were Arab Americans, and she felt she was a prisoner of her home.
Were you born in America? Have you lived your whole life in America? If so, you and her share that in common with each other.
Then the announcer asked if she wore the shawl over her head like some Muslims do, which she replied yes. Then the announcer asked if she would not wear it so she might be able to leave her house with more confidence. She began to cry and asked why she, in America, having been born here like you and I, was now being asked to give up her freedom to practice her belief (one that has no ill towards anyone). Those that attacked on Tues. have twisted their religion as many have over history to justify horrible acts of violence. Christians, Jews, Muslims, it really doesn't matter to zealots.
I am appalled as an American that other Americans would act in the same way as those who attacked on Tues. with random acts of violence against a person because of the color of their skin or their belief system.
I’m also ashamed that our government is doing nothing to help fellow Americans who are being attacked with racial discrimination.
And since our government won’t do anything about it, I guess it’s up to citizens who are willing to fight for our rights in our country.
If you are an Arab American citizen who is experiencing racial discrimination, or are afraid to leave your house for fear of attack by people who would act as our aggressors did on Tues., please let me help. If you need help getting to a store or whatever in regard to ensuring your safety, call- 415-806-3519. Email is leif@thordesign.com.
My name is Leif Thor and as a proud American citizen, I won’t stand for this any longer. I can help those in need in San Francisco. I’m just one person, but if others help me we can provide some safety to those being persecuted.
If you feel as I do, and are, or are not an Arab American citizen who wishes to stand together as a people (Americans), email me or call me with contact info so we can coordinate and stand together as a people who believe in our country’s beliefs.
Oh, and if by chance you are one of those out there that wishes to inflict pain on people because of what they believe in or how they look, realize you’ve now joined forces with those who attacked this country on Tues. I endorse your grieving. We all need to grieve about this. But to attack fellow Americans is as far from the right thing to do as possible.
If you know of someone who might to wish harm now or in the near future, please let me know who they are so we can work to get counseling to them to help them out.
