    Buying and Selling

I had been placing ads for sale, and for things we needed. My son and I have lived in a house with no dining room, we did a lot of eating in our rooms, at the computer desk, sofa, or t.v trays. I placed an ad, and responded to a few. A lady named Liz responded with a beautiful dining room table and eight chairs - FREE! I could not believe it. Not only that, but she gave us a file cabinet, an antique desk, chair, end tables, and patio furniture. She then offered my son money to take a few loads of items and dispose of them. We were blessed to find some other items we needed and donated the rest to St. Vincent De Paul. Craigslist is awesome, thank you for being here, when I have some money I will send in a donation. This service in invaluable.

I had an extra laptop that I wanted to sell. I had many offers and questions and I finally narrowed it down to one guy. He was a single father of 3 who was trying to go back to school and need a computer to use for school and also his kids. He took the long drive to Sacramento (where I lived at the time) from the Bay Area one night. Checked it out and bought it from me. It was great to get rid of something I didn't need and be able to help someone in need! Thanks Craig!!

I saw an ad for a computer monitor....and contacted the guy and gave him my offer. It turned out to be a good deal and I saved a lot of money buying a used 21'' monitor instead of buying a new smaller size one. Thanks Craigslist.

I advertised a sewing table for sale. Only one person answered the ad. She was studying fashion designing in college and she really needed this sewing table. She came over, picked it up, payed me my asking price and off she went. I felt so wonderful that a person really needing this item saw it and contacted me.

Simply put, a transaction I engaged in went off without a hitch. I purchased a Compaq PDA from a person who posted an Ad on your site. This site solves so many everyday problems and fills so many voids, it's a blessing it's free! Thanks Craig :)

i have had several successful transactions from craigslist. i sold my old casio keyboard, bought a great treadmill for $50, bought an AWESOME car for $3200 which i have put almost 30K miles on in the year i've had it and still using to commute every day, and for road trips and visits to my family. after acquiring the car, i posted a request for a ride sharer, and met a very nice girl from germany who rode to rochester with me, paid for half the gas, and provided pleasant company on the six-hour trip. i not only sold my extra "they might be giants" ticket on craigslist, i went to the show with the girl who bought it. everyone i've done business with from craigs has been very pleasant and reasonable. it's the first place i go to buy, sell, or trade.

I owned a very large jacuzzi tub for over two years, taking up much space in my life, first in a storage unit, next in my living room (unacceptable to my fiance and myself). I acquired it from a planning mistake in a house I was working on. I knew that this particular tub was quite good and costly too, the local news classified were too expensive to give it the full description it needed, so calls I got from the ad I placed there were often just looking for the wrong item. CRAISGLIST let me place a very descriptive ad, so the buyer was well aware of what the item was. The sale being local and direct with the buyer solved any shipping or payment issues (like I might have had through..say ebay). CRAIGSLIST = GOOD

About a month ago, I moved apartments and had to furnish everything from scratch. I bought almost everything from Craig's List. I got my dining table and chairs, kitchen supplies, dresser, shelves, arm chairs and sofa all from Craig's List. I bought from 5 different people and had a great experience working with all five of them. I love using Craig's List so much, that my brother has decided to use Craig's List to find a new apartment rather than going through a broker or the newspaper. It's easy and everyone I've worked with has been friendly and a pleasure to do business with.

    Romance

I spent the new year's night dancing by myself at a local club until I ran into this gorgeous lady standing there by herself searching for something. I went up to her and asked her for a dance. The music had stopped and I had to sing into her ears and dance with her. I guess she enjoyed it as well. Then we parted ways without an exchange of phone numbers or names for that matter, silly me. I posted a listing on MC on CL and guess what, she answered!! I was shocked and amazed and pleasantly surprised that I could meet her. THANKS CL.. you rock

A little over 2 years ago, I was looking online for someone to spend some time with. I happened upon an ad on your website that caught my attention, and so I responded to it. I've been with the young man I met from that ever since. I have had outstanding success with every ad I've posted on your website, from all 3 cars I've ever owned, to selling off half my possessions, to meeting some of the best friends I've ever had. :)

Because of craigslist, we were able to sell a car, donate another to charity (from a post on the list) and buy real estate books. Additionally, at times there are services listed for free and we have been able to refer people to these services. So, on that note, I wish to say, Thank you, CRAIGSLIST STAFF! for the awesome website that helps people!!

I put an ad on in the Pets section requesting a pug buddy for my pug puppy-Nomi. The first e-mail I received was from a woman telling me about the Pug Sunday's in the Bay Area where pug owners get together at a park so that their pugs can play together. The other e-mail I received last night. This was a woman who had a male pug about 6 months older than mine. She wanted to meet up so that our pug's could play together. I wrote her back immediately telling her it sounded great. She came over to my house today and our two dogs, Nomi (my female) and Baxter (her male) played together for about an hour. They had so much fun, and I'm glad that this worked out for Nomi.

Hi--I posted an odd sort of ad, and it went like this: Ladies, do you miss having good girlfriends? I'm a 27 year old single (have boyfriend, not married) female who's been living in Seattle for 2 years and am wondering why it's so hard to meet RELIABLE girlfriends who can bring fun, interesting, and even challenging ideas to the relationship. I miss my female high school/college friends and would like to re-vamp this area of my life--I'm seeking a small group of young, professional (but not yuppie), honest, fun, creative and supportive women who understand that through all of life's phases, girlfriends are the ones you should always be able to count on! If you're married, single, divorced--whatever--and miss having a network of good girlfriends, send me an email...let's get together for happy hour, movies, concerts, at-home manicures, shopping, anything that we can do while rejoicing in the fact that we are women!! Please only consider this if you plan on being a good friend--flakes need not inquire!!! ...and I got about 30 responses, all within one week, and now have an active group of 23 friends with tons of future plans and other networking opportunities. I'd like to say "thanks" to Craig's List for #1: Being Free, #2: Being truly community-oriented, and #3: Letting yourselves grow by depending solely on word-of-mouth, not blatant advertising. You guys rock.

*Craigslist is such a positive force in the community! I've used it since 1999, and I've found the sweetest dog in the world (rescued from Nike Animal Rescue Foundation from a link posted in the pets section), my dentist (who specializes in people who hate the dentist), my OB-GYN (who specializes in women with a high cancer risk), my current boyfriend (yay, personals!), and I donated a printer to the Berkeley adult school. It's a great local resource, a place to exchange ideas and goods, a pulse on what issues are important to the community, and I appreciate the fact that Craig is pro-active against spammers and doesn't accept ads. It's truly one of the best spots on the web.*

Craigslist has been the greatest asset to our non-profit music education program, Little Kids Rock. Little Kids Rock believes that music is a critical component of a first-rate education. Many elementary schools have been stripped of their music programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately large impact on children from low-income backgrounds. Our program provides free music classes and musical instruments to children in our public elementary schools. Our unique program focuses on popular music styles such as rock, funk, blues, rap, and hip-hop. Our curriculum reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of our students. Participating students also compose, perform and record their own music and music videos. Through this the Craigslist community we've been the beneficiary of donated services, computers and hundreds of volunteers from California to New Jersey. It is through these resources that Little Kids Rock has been able to serve well over 1,000 children across the country! By definition, non-profit organizations have very little funds available to them. By having a volunteer-based staff that is dependent on the generosity of donated goods and services, we are able to pass on the bulk of our generated funds to benefit children in under-funded school districts. Thank you Craigslist Community for coming to the rescue and helping Little Kids Rock from Coast-to-Coast! For more info. on Little Kids Rock, please visit: http://www.littlekidsrock.org

I do animal foster and rescue care and I have had so much good luck on craigslist. I want to thank you for giving humans a chance to advertise and contact for free. You are helping A LOT of people and creatures! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! Craigslist has provided me the means to rescue 2 lizards, 1 rat, and 3 dogs all within 3 months. Having a friend recommend Craigslist has been my best luck ever. This kind of success is very important especially when you do rescue and fostering out of your own pocket and don't have the means to pay for advertising.

Before I heard of CL, I was a mess. Out of work, depressed, alone. Found CL, found a great support system, got a great job, found a free large appliance and saved 100's of dollars it would have cost me. Now, my employer thinks I'm wonderful because I can recruit volunteers, find donations and get instant responses to questions. I recommend CL to people every day for all sorts of things - buying, selling, hiring, networking... The only problem I've found is that I'm addicted to CL - and with my new improved life, I just don't have as many hours to dedicate to CL any longer. I love you folks, keep up the GREAT work!!

Our foundation is a 501c3 organization that supports +200 children and adults ages 6 plus with developmental disabilities across the Bay Area in school, day program and residential services. We have enjoyed many donations through Craig's including a piano, large office cubicles, large concrete planters, art and office supplies and much more. We have used everything. You guys are so cool. Thanks for giving us an easy platform. It would be great to share this story.

    Small Business

You'll never believe this tale of entrepreneurship, collaboration and pure luck. I'm from Boston and I have a business that transfers films/videos to DVDs for independent and documentary filmmakers. Sundance filmmakers are in my target market so I tried to get passes the events. Unfortunately, it was too late to buy the cheap packages and I didn't want to go if I couldn't mingle with the filmmakers. I went onto Craigslist NYC and typed in Sundance. Wouldn't you know it, a Sundance nominated filmmaker posted an ad to swap her invited guest passes for a plane ticket to Sundance. Since tickets were only $200 out of JFK I purchased the ticket and we went to Sundance together. I had an all access pass to all of the events, movies and panels I wanted. That's not all. My company ended up producing a compilation DVD of her animated short films. We collaborated on marketing her work and my company's DVD services while at Sundance. I now stay at her Brooklyn apartment while on business in NYC to sell her work and my services. Thanks CL!!

I responded to a posting in the artist section for artwork to hang in a new shop that was opening near my home. I sent some sample images along with the email I sent to them in response. I got a reply that said, "Sorry but my computer is cranky today. Can you bring your art by the shop." Since I am a digital artist, I decided to print my artwork out small to save time, effort and paper. Then, I decided to just put it on some folded paper, like a notecard. When I bought them to the shop they "loved"; the cards and said that they couldn't find any other high quality cards like mine. On the way home, I stopped into a flower shop and asked if they would like to take a look at some cards I made. They ended up also loving the cards. That was three weeks ago and I now have three accounts (the first three people I showed them to) and a candle company is also interested in using my images on their candles. Thanks Craig's list for getting me started in a business that I would never have thought of doing all by myself.

I was in the middle of the process of coordinating different people, investors, and aspects in the development of a nightclub on the Sunset Strip. In the"Items Wanted" section I ran across an ad by someone who was looking for a Nightclub/restaurant to invest in. I answered the ad and the person ended up investing around $40,000 into the location.

OK...stop already. Wow. I placed an ad for a position available late yesterday evening. I have received in one 24 hour period over 200 resumes and I am in one of your secondary markets...north Bay - Healdsburg to be exact. I have already conducted several phone and email interviews in the first day and have second face to face interviews for Thursday. I will probably hire by Friday. I placed the same ad on another site and have received about 25 responses from there. You do the math. Fabulous job...too fabulous. Take it down. You guys are too popular. Thank you. Best $75. I have spent in I don't know when!!!!!!!!!!!

Was forever dying to leave the Corporate World. Found your site via word-of-mouth from one of my roommates. Took a chance on a listing I found on your site for an Associate Manager position at an English Pub literally 4 blocks from my apartment - and got it! 2 months into the gig, I cannot be more thrilled with the new career path I have taken. Thank you Craig's List!

We are a leading provider of financial data and tools, such as stock quotes, charts, and SEC filings, to websites and corporate intranets. We were looking for a Java programmer. Within 15 minutes of our posting, we had a candidate who came to our office to drop off his resume. We have never received a response that fast. We eventually hired him. Naturally, we are going to turn to Craigslist.com to fill future job openings. Thank you for contributing to our success this year. http://www.financialcontent.com

I found an ad for a job at a website called Zap2it.com, and I applied. I thought they would never contact me, as 3+ weeks went by, but I finally got an email. I went in for an interview, and although I didn't get that particular job, the same company called me a week later. They set up another interview with me, and I got hired on the spot! I always knew good ol' Craigslist would come through for me. I wouldn't have ever heard about this company hiring if it wasn't for your site, so thanks--seriously. :)

Laid off from my tech job in April 2002. Started posting my resume on CL soon after, in addition to using Dice.com, HotJobs, Monster, and CareerBuildter. The vast majority of those interested in my skillset found my resume on CL. I had many phone and in-person interviews. Finally in August, I landed a 3/4-time Computer Programming job, which I still have today. I continued posting my resume once per week, continuing to get interviews. Finally in December 2002, I landed a second, 2-day-per-week programming contract, bringing me to full time between the 2 jobs. By far, I have had more success using CL resume posting than all other job-search services combined.

After spending a decade as the owner of numerous restaurants I finally decided that I had had enough of the late nights, early mornings, and unexpected staff vacanies that I had to cover. I sold my last restaurant in San Francisco and decided to go back to my original profession, writing. Upon completion of my book I got the urge to get back into journalism and took to the internet to see what kind of newspaper jobs were available. Naturally, I went to Craigslist. Two weeks hadn't passed when I got a call back from a general manager of a newspaper who posted his available editor position on the site. I interviewed and within three weeks I was sitting at the editor's desk of the Martinez News-Gazette. Since taking over the paper we have had numerous stories done on the publication and to this day we use craigslist for all of our hiring needs. It is ironic that a newspaper would use the internet, but, modern technology does prevail. Plus, everyone is a winner in this situation. I found a dream job. The paper has increased circulation and notoriety and because I replaced the entire editorial staff once I became the editor, craigslist got more business. What a wonderful ending.

I am relocating from L.A. to San Francisco at the end of this month and I found a great apartment and all of my leads from craigslist.org. I am currently looking for a job and this site makes it so easy and with a community feel. Your site has made an otherwise stressful move a lot easier and I feel not alone.

About a year ago I casually came onto craigslist to look at available residential rentals in my area. We had been living in an ok place but it was by the freeway and dark. I stumbled across an ad with a description that couldn't have been any closer to exactly what I was looking for had I wrote it myself. After making the contact call I hit it off with the owner like we were old friends. The house was beautiful and even still the home off my dreams. We are happy in our home and it is perfect. My son attends school a half block from our home and it wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for craigslist. Thank you craigslist!!!

Finding housing in LA can be one's life work but craigslist was just what I needed when I decided to relocate. I trolled the postings and managed to be the first responder to my new apartment in Silverlake. I found a great place at a great price with newly refinished hardwood floors, lots of privacy and views of the hills. I am finally at home here in LA. Keep up the good work.

Before moving to San Francisco, I got a housesitting job there from Craigslist so that I could have 2 weeks to look for a place to live without paying huge hotel fees or living in unlivable conditions. I found a great apartment with 2 great roommates (who have become good friends as well) from Craigslist and I have managed to continue my own business in a town in which I knew no one. I have gotten many clients from craigslist, I've used the transport forums to ask wehicle registration questions and I have gotten so much helpful information from the writers forum. Craigslist has been my number one tool in making the transition from Texas to San Francisco so easy. I LOVE craigslist and don't know what I would have done without it!

I found a great apartment off newyork.craigslist.org I had been looking for over 3 weeks through other roommate websites, and couldn't at the time put money down through a credit card just to amuse someone...but I felt that this website had a certain integrity of web users, and felt more comfortable using the website. So November last year I met someone in my same cultural origin and less than 2 miles from my last job. I still live there. Coming from FL, I was given this website when moving that if I ever needed anything to check it out. And rightfully so....found a new job as well through this service. Thanks forever Craig...slist

I had offers on four duplexes for sale in Santa Rosa and Vallejo California within a week of placing an ad on Craig's List. Professional investors who knew what they were looking for responded to my one ad. A great place to sell property!

I first started using Craigslist about a year and a half ago when I was looking to move to NYC with my then-boyfriend. It found us a great, remarkably cheap apartment, which we never ended up moving into. Fast-forward to October of 2002. I'm starting culinary school in Chicago in May of '03 (happily without boyfriend now) and the apartment search was making me desperate. I had an ad on Craigslist Chicago forever, but nothing was turning up. Just as I was about to sign a lease on a horrible apartment with no character, a girl named Stacy responded to my ad. I told her I'd drive down to Chicago, stop by and see her place RIGHT before I was scheduled to sign this other lease. To make a long story short, it was perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. She's great, the place is great, and I can't wait. I've bought everything I need for the move off of Craigslist and I talk it up to all my friends. Craigslist is the shit!

I have built my entire life from Craigslist since moving to the Bay Area. All of my apartments (4), my current job (as an attorney), my soccer teams and pick-up soccer games (too many to mention), and 3 boyfriends (one of which has lasted over two years). I also have gotten help moving from some craigslisters, given away furniture and other assorted items, and even bought some things. People have given me recommendations and I have reciprocated on a myriad of issues. I check Craigslist several times a day, so I must be a junkie. Hell, I even wanted to date Craig at one point!

Not only did I find my current and prior apartments on Craigslist, I also successfully sublet my prior apartment and the one before that on Craigslist too! I've also sold a sofa and a professional massage table through Craigslist. Oh yeah, also found a quicker way to get to work on the forums. What a great resource!

Where do I begin... I moved and had a ton of boxes that I didn't need anymore, a coor couple were about to move and through the free stuff we met. I'm still not sure who was happerier with the transaction - me to be free of the boxes or them to get the deal. then I needed roommates - I got 3 GREAT people to live with me. 1 has since moved out, but we remain great friends. The long description space is great for statoing exactly what you have to offer and what you are looking for - can't imagine using the paper. Tried the personals - met some nice people - but no spark yet :-( Responded to a job listing and got some contract work. Basically - whatever I need - I go to Craigslist first.

I have to be one of the biggest Craigslist fans around. And I tell everyone about it. I moved to L.A. close to a year ago, and was feeling pretty lost. Then someone toldme about Craigslist. In the nine months since I've known about the site, I booked a print job for a national hair product, I'm teaching yoga at a fitness studio that was just opening and looking for certified instructors, met several great photographers who I've swapped time for prints with and am now able to put together a great portfolio for basically no money, bought a perfect condition VCR for $50, did a staged reading for a writer who since has become a really good friend, and have a few other jobs pending. If I thought for a few minutes, I'd probably remember a few more. I'd be happy to go into more detail about any or all of it if you'd like. And thank you!!

I love you guys! My fiance and I just signed a lease on a place that was advertised exclusively through CL, and it's terrific. My last place I got through Metrorent, but all my roomies came from you. We plan to find movers, moving boxes, and furniture on the list as well. When I got dumped 2 years ago, I placed a personals ad and got 70 responses in 2 days, which made me feel MUCH better (went on 3 dates, no results, but fun! definitely got me back in the mood for dating). At work, I help people get jobs, and do most of my job-searching on your site. I lurk in the Job Market forum to see what people are experiencing out there, and occasionally offer assistance and advice. Furthermore, I've gotten almost half of the participants for my job training program through posting on cl. I even found someone to come and help me clean my house in exchange for career counseling! not to mention all the entertainment value! I check the 'best of' section regularly, and surf MC on slow days. In short, you've made my life and that of all my friends, co-workers, loved ones, and clients MUCH better. THANK YOU CRAIG!!!
