Dear Ndugu,

How are you? I am fine. I've had another one of those days. I live in San Francisco, one of the big cities here in California. Every morning I wake up, take a long stroll to work, grab some coffee, and head up to the office.

I'd say I split most of my days 3 ways. First, I get yelled at alot. I'm not sure why. Some sort of report is late, or memo needs to be written ASAP, or I forgot an important signature, or B,C,L, or J feel the need to get all bent out of shape over some trivial bullshit. Ndugu, I tell you, those are some miserable old people.

Second, I spend my day on something called Craigs list. I'm not entirely sure how to explain Craigslist, cause you probably don't know what the internet is. Well, let me tell you. The internet is this wonderful tool that people use to exchange ideas, get directions, buy stuff, and find information on all of their favorite things. Craigslist is a little different. You see, on Craigslist people come together to complain about all sorts of things. In America, we have these things called sports utility vehicles. Really big machines (sort of like tanks) that use a whole bunch of gas and leave lots of smoke behind them where they go. They're expensive, some people who have lots of money buy them for recreation, while the rest of us complain about how bad they are for the environment, or how they use way to much oil. You know what Ndugu? I don't really care, but there are wars being fought over who gets the oil all the time.

People also use Craigslist to find romantic partners, though I'm not sure if anyone ever finds them. America is sort of a place where many people that are from different places live together. On craigslist, people can say, "i'm in love with people from this country or that country', or 'I like girls that do wierd things that make me especially happy'. Its all kind of nonsense, but some people actually get worked up enough about it that their feelings get hurt - we call those people flaggers.

Craigslist isn't all bad though. Recently I was able to find a new apartment, and buy a toaster.

I'll get to the point, Ndugu, I', sure your busy. The rest of my day is spent worrying about myself, and my friends. Some of them are quite unhappy because they've been hurt by others and are unwilling to try to make NEW friends, because of the way their OLD friends have acted. I know it might seem complicated, but I'm sure you'll understand when your older.

The thing is, Ndugu, I'm a little worried that all of the cynacism that goes on on craigslist is affecting my outlook on things. It makes me sad that there is so much unrequitted love in such a small place. Perhaps too small for things like love to happily exist. I'm not sure. I haven't decided yet. I sort of miss home, you know?

Well Ndugu, I'm going to let you go. I'll write again soon, I hope, but for now I'm going to leave work and try to spend yet another evening pondering the intricacies of romance and wondering how so many people can take other people's feelings so lightly.

All the best,

Warren
