This is a Realistic brand bulk tape eraser (Cat. No. 44-232). It is a device used to completely erase magnetic tape recordings.
It works by randomizing the magnetic particles on the tape using a strong electromagnetic field.
It prepares used tapes for clean re-recording.
The device has an "intermittent duty" rating, meaning it can be used for 1 minute on, followed by 20 minutes off, to prevent overheating.
It operates on 120V AC at 50/60 Hz and draws 5A of current.
Last Used in The 80s a few times.
